Not making your content available to all users is discrimination. Is your content accessible?
Governments worldwide, including in Australia, have legislated that products like websites must meet accessibility standards. In Australia, the Disabilities Discrimination Act requires that websites must be accessible, with legal precedents already in existence.
Poor accessibility affects everyone, but the groups most affected include:
- people with visual impairment
- people with motor disabilities
- people from non-English speaking backgrounds
- people from an educationally disadvantaged background
- elderly people
- children
At Access Testing, we target issues that may disadvantage these groups when they use online products.
The 3 stages of our accessibility testing are:
- programmatically scanning the website to check compliance with W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0
- manually reviewing all pages to find items not uncovered during the scan
- testing all pages with screen reading software to mimic real users with assistive technology
